Like many successful Jamaican companies its origins were simple, but steadfast, starting with the identification of a need, blossoming into a goal and taking on the shape of reality in the form of a solid family run business, with over forty employees.
The company started its early operations in 1978, at 15 Arnold Road, specializing in rust proofing, undercoating, polycoating and fabric treatment of new and used cars. Adherence to high service standards and effective operating systems quickly earned it a reputation for quality.
In 1979 the company started trading in small quantities of windshields with the goal of becoming specialists in auto glass. Again their high service standards and systems earned them the reputation and recognition as ‘The Windshield People, Specialists in Auto Glass.’
Both management and staff took pride in their growing reputation and business and gained greater customer confidence as they repeatedly heard the words ‘EML has it in stock’ By October 1981 the company’s growth was evidenced by the acquisition of larger premises on 17 Arnold Road and by October 1988 the company had expanded its services to include the installation of flat glasses for buses, trains, trucks, jeeps, tractors and boats.
By May 2 1991, The Windshield Centre emerged as a subsidiary of EML, specializing in glass and accessories. By 1991 they had again expanded with ‘rural’ delivery and installation of windshields in Ocho Rios, Discovery Bay, Falmouth, Montego Bay, May Pen, Mandeville and Savanna-la-mar, thereby meeting the needs of customers island wide and making EML a household name in Jamaica.
In July 1997 they took a giant step and relocated their facilities next door to 19 Arnold Road in a new spacious building specially designed and built to provide a more comfortable and welcoming environment for customers.
By March 1998 Windshield Centre assumed total control of the glass business, enabling its parent company EML to continue diversifying in property development, projects and property rental and facilitating continuous business growth and development.
